I love folklore, and I love Vikings, and I really love hairy gay dudes, so this comic strip was a no-brainer for me. I’ve been drawing sequential art ever since I was a kid. I can still recall the mini-comic I did as a child. The medium? Scented marker on typing paper. Starring: “Ms. Nova”, an intergalactic superheroine who wore a wrestling mask, topped by a Farrah
Fawcett wig. (That way, I didn’t have to spend much time on her face. Efficient!) For the monthly high school paper, I did two strips: “Dippy Duck” and “Rad Rabbit.” Rad Rabbit had earrings and a mullet. Ergo, his radicalness. Did I mention that it was the mid-80’s? Flash forward past a few decades of lonesome struggle, and here we are!
My chief cartooning influence right now is Mark Marek. I’m also trying to incorporate some of the wild energy of (the legendary) Milt
Gross, and the zen simplicity of Bill Watterson and Chris Eliopoulos. We’ll see how it goes. I do feel that the art is improving. Also -- although I hadn’t seen one of his strips in years -- I apparently picked up some kind of
subliminal thing from Kevin Fagan’s “Drabble”. Yeah, I don’t understand it either.
When I have enough strips under my belt, I’ll collect them in a print edition. This strip is my hairy little baby, and I love watching it grow!
